Menu Shoot at Next Door Lounge, Hollywood

When the owner of Next Door Lounge called and said he wanted some images for their new brunch menu, of course I was excited. Next Door Lounge is this funky flapper-eque speakeasy in the heart of Hollywood. With brick walls, wood plank floors and cozy leather sofas it screams vintage Hollywood. Even though I left my flapper dress at home I did bring along the following equipment:

Canon 5d MK II

Canon 24-105 f4

Photoflex strobe set with 2 1000w strobes

2 pocket wizards

Extension cords

Lots of reflectors and A clamps

This shoot was for their menu and not an editorial piece, (but I already have ideas for that shoot). We chose to shoot on one of the high-top tables in the bar area. It was made of a weathered wood and had a bit of flare around the edges. This would give just a bit of detail around the standard issue restaurant white plates. There was a nice huge window that once you pulled back the heavy velvet curtains, poured in light. This would be our main source of light coming in from the 1:00 position. We used one of the strobes in the 10:00 position for a bit of fill. To give some highlights to the front of the dish, reflectors did a perfect job.
