Meet Photographer Jen Sharp

I’ve always had an interest in photography. I remember taking photography classes with my mom at the YMCA, it still gives me a cozy feeling. Later, I would take artsy darkroom classes at the community college and take photos for friends. It was never anything serious, just a creative outlet that I enjoyed.

After I graduated college I moved from Minnesota to Belize. I was already a certified SCUBA diver so I decided to buy an underwater camera and have some fun. Underwater photography is very different than anything on land, so there definitely was a bit of a learning curve. Soon I was going along on all the dives and taking photos of the tourists and creating CDs of their memories. Belize is also a popular destination for weddings. It soon evolved, I was shooting underwater photos in the mornings, and weddings in the evenings.

After a few years, I moved back to the US, where I work, full-time, as a photographer. I shoot photos for real estate and resort photos for hotels but what I enjoy most is photographing children and families.

I’ve been developing new editing techniques to make composites of images.  I enjoy collaborating with families to make these intricate, fantasy-like photos extra special.

Idaho is such a unique and beautiful landscape, which is great for inspiration. There are so many things to do and see. Between the mountains, rivers and vast forests, I’m never bored. Each week, I make a little to-do list of all the places I want to go and never once have I made it to the end of the list.

I do hope Idaho will keep me as busy as Belize did. I love what I do and I hope that is reflected in my work.
